You are amazed by the Pomodoro technique and the tomato timer. You order this. You get a timer that, besides loudly ticking away the time, also makes an even louder (friction-y) sound, akin to a Saint Bernard returning from chasing a squirrel. This is even more distracting to listen to. It must be a loose piece inside. You try to pick this thing apart, and then, the whole thing explodes in your hand into a pile of springs and screws and gears and pieces—no more sounds of panting or ticking anymore. But you also have a useless pile of parts and a valuable lesson about mechanical timers in the digital age.

Unpredictable, inaudible bell
My husband got this to try the Pomodoro Technique. Sometimes it goes off when there’s 5 minutes left. Sometimes when there’s 2 minutes left. Sometimes it goes into the negative before it goes off. And usually, when it ‘goes off’, the ticking just gets quieter and quieter and then stops. When you pick it up, there’s a little noise that makes you believe that there’s a bell in it that’s supposed to make a noise, but you only hear it when you pick it up and move it a little next to your ear. I guess you get what you pay for. We don’t even plan to return it because it’s useless and will just end up in a landfill. Instead it just sort of sits on the table, mocking us. At least it’s sort of pretty, and the cats are fascinated by its ticking.

It Ticks Loudly Whole Time
I bought this for office wellness (to remind me to get up for breaks, etc.), and omg it sounds like mini bomb on desk. Also not thrilled with having to wind to 55 and then counterwind to desired time. I realize it’s not primarily for my intended use but it’s supposed to be popular alternative use. Otherwise cute appearance but hard pass.

Spring winds but once the time is set, it doesn’t move or tick. Only way to get it to ring is to manually turn it back to zero.

Since I intended to use it to remind me to get up every 30 minutes while I was working at my computer, this was unacceptable to me and I have returned the timer to Amazon. It might work OK for use in the kitchen, but not for anything requiring quiet for concentration.

Bought this cute little timer to use for the pomodoro method of time management. Unfortunately, it failed to work at all.In fairness, the vendor offered a refund if we shipped it back to them. But after deducting shipping from a $9 refund it wasn’t worth the time to mess around with.

I took tips from other reviewers so that I use it properly. For example, making sure I wind it completely before setting the time. It worked for two months and conked off. It stops with three minutes left – regardless of the time I set.

I thought I know how to use these but I actually didn’t, lol. You have to turn it the other way around before setting it to the right time. Read the manual first if you are unsure. Works.
