The Kidde Carbon Monoxide Detector, Propane, Natural, & Explosive Gas Alarm, Plug-In Wall with 9-Volt Battery Backup, Digital LED Display uses electrochemical sensor technology to detect poisonous carbon monoxide, methane gas, sewer gas, propane gas or natural gas in your home and alerts you by sounding an 85-decibel alarm & displaying the amount of carbon monoxide detected or stating “gas” on the digital display when detecting explosive gas. Setup is easy as the Kidde carbon monoxide alarm plugs into a standard, 120V AC power outlet in your home, while a 9-volt alkaline battery (included) works as a backup in the event of a power failure. When carbon monoxide is detected, the digital display shows the level of carbon monoxide the alarm is sensing and updates every 15 seconds. Peak Level Memory records the last time carbon monoxide was detected or when the unit was tested. The Smart-Hush button silences the unit for approximately 8 minutes, which is helpful when this smoke detector carbon monoxide detector combo sounds from things like routine cooking or shower steam. Extension cord (included) allows for placement on a table or shelf. Install a carbon monoxide detector on every level of your home and near bedrooms to keep your family safe. UL certified with a 6-year warranty. Meets UL 2034 and UL 1484.

Peace of mind for my families new gas oven
We recently switched from an electric oven to gas, so I got the Kidde Nighthawk to keep our kitchen safe. It reliably detects carbon monoxide, propane, natural, and explosive gases. The AC plug-in with battery backup gives extra peace of mind during power outages, and the digital display is easy to read. Setup was simple and it’s been working flawlessly since installation. Highly recommend for anyone using gas appliances.

    Great quality product!
Great quality product, test it every so often and works well every time. I would buy this same one and this brand, again if needed in the future. We use this in our basement.

A lot of misinformation in negative reviews
I didn’t have a natural gas detector so I got this one to put in my basement, which is the only place in my home with natural gas. Installation is easy, just plug it in. The plug portion can be removed from the back of the unit and the main part located at a different level than the plug. Natural gas is lighter than air and propane is heavier so they recommend that it be located high in the room if you have natural gas and low if you have propane.A lot of the negative reviewers don’t appear to understand when the unit is supposed to sound the alarm. Carbon monoxide is poisonous at high concentrations. Natural gas and propane are not poisonous but can be explosive at high concentrations, the levels are well established. At very high concentrations they can cause suffocation because they displace oxygen. The packaging says that it might take up to 4 hours to sound depending on the concentration of CO, this is consistent with the UL standard. In fact a unit would fail the UL test if it went off within 30 days when there are low levels of CO. This is to minimize nuisance alarms, the alarm wouldn’t do any good if people got frustrated and disabled it. The gas detector alarm is specified to sound by the time the concentration reaches 25%, this is below the explosive threshold. Just because there is a heavy gas odor doesn’t mean there is an immediate danger. One negative reviewer tried to test it with a cigarette lighter, which typically use butane. This unit is only specified to test for natural gas (methane) and propane. The warranty is 5 years, the unit will stop working after 7 years and should be replaced. This is a safety feature, not planned obsolescence.

    Bad bat, old unit
Year old, with a bad battery. I ordered and received the unit the same day. It was new old stock (NOS) made late 2024. Not idea. AND even worse, as soon as I plugged it in, the unit alarm started sounding with what looked like an “L6” error display. Turns out that was actually a “L” as in “Low” and “b” as in “battery”. So I checked and indeed the shipped bat was low. I replaced it, after calming my family down about false alert, and the unit is now working properly. I’m ordering two more and will update this review if those two are newer and/or have good batteries.

    CO detector works perfectly.
I was a little apprehensive buying this, as there were some “don’t work” reviews, and, well, I NEED this to work. Oddly enough, we had a situation just a week later: We already had an older, ceiling-mounted CO detector (First Alert), and set this one up in a different part of the basement. We got 9+ inches of rain in a day and a half, and the storm sewers were backing up. Got home early in the evening. We had some water in the basement (not too much), but BOTH alarms went off!! In 41 years in this house, we’d never had our CO alarm go off. Being both went off, we knew it was real. The reading was 47 in the basement, but nothing upstairs. It showed a historical (that day) high of 145!! The numbers kept slowly decreasing, until, about 2 hours later, it was gone. Our FirstAlert is an audio alarm only, with no readout. Having the actual CO numbers is HUGELY beneficial!!! Can’t comment on the gas detector yet (knock on wood). No buyer’s remorse here!

    Great product
Excellent product from a well known & trusted manufacturer. It is well worth buying for the sense of security & peace of mind that the carbon monoxide & natural gases are being quietly monitored 24/7. The unit is easy to install, unobtrusive and is nicely designed.

    Digital display.
Peace of mind from a well known brand. Easy set up. Just put the back-up battery in and plug in. I like that it shows the digital reading.
